How This Course is Funded
At No Cost to You/ Pay it Forward as Jesus Leads
Throughout our Training Pathway, from the Intro to Church 101 all the way through training as a LK10 Trainer, LK10 offers all training at no charge to you because someone else has paid for your participation. We really mean that and we hope you fully receive the gift!
We also give you an opportunity to listen to Jesus around paying it forward at every stage of your training so that LK10 facilitators can continue offering training at no cost to others. This is NOT an expected donation, nor a suggested donation.
This is a response to you listening to God on these questions:
- How much was this training worth to me?
- Would You, God, like me to give so that someone else can train at no cost?
- If He does not lead you to give, how do you feel about that? (Pay attention here. Sometimes we don’t follow Jesus, because we feel guilty just receiving or resting, etc. Maybe He wants you to learn to receive without feeling guilty! Remember, we are Joy-fueled and Jesus-led. We do not give out of guilt or obligation or expectation, but out of an overflow of joy and Jesus’ leading)
- If you do want me to give, how much should go back to my group facilitator and/or to LK10?
What is the suggested value of training?
Church 101 is valued at $200 per person. We recognize these values are unique to the US context. These values might not make sense to those outside of the US. Meaning they might seem overpriced or even underpriced, depending on which country you are from. Another reason LK10 depends on Jesus to lead you.
We offer the US monetary value so that people know what the training is worth in this context, however, we only ask that you listen to God and donate back to your facilitator whatever God lays on your heart to give. We trust God to provide for all of our needs and look to HIM, not those we train for that provision.
How does someone “pay it forward”?
- Your facilitator will give you their information on how they can receive funds.
What is the money used for?
- Money given to your facilitator helps them to continue offering future training for others. Please pray about how to suppor them best.
- Money given to LK10 helps cover the cost of communicating, hosting training, and coordinating with each participant.
When I give to LK10, what does it cover?
- When you give to LK10, it does not go to your facilitator. It helps cover the costs of content creation, coordinating of training, website hosting, etc. LK10 is a very small, lean organization, seeking to cover all overhead costs with one-time givers and monthly donors, or “Strategic Partners” (see Strategic Partners). What if I cannot listen to Jesus on this because it stirs up hard feelings just thinking about money? Hilary’s story might be helpful:
When I came to LK10, I had been full-time missionary with 6 years of raising support for various mission initiatives. For many months, while trusting God to provide, I lived off of faith and Ramen Noodles, not knowing if I was going to be able to make rent or have money for gas.
While this might have been unhealthy, I was taught to sacrifice everything for Jesus. I should give and keep nothing for myself. Growing up, I almost felt guilty for having my needs met, because so many people in the world had much less than I did.
Therefore, I strove to be a joyful, sacrificial giver, even when I did not have the resources to give. I was taught to give, but, unfortunately, never taught how to receive, or that my physical, emotional or spiritual needs were even valid.
When I first experienced this “pay it forward” concept with LK10, I was so broke, that I could not give anything to my facilitator. I struggled with guilt. I felt as if I owed a debt. As the weeks went on, and I still could not pay the money, I started to feel ashamed.
Thoughts raced through my mind:
- “They said the training costs x, but did someone else really pay for me?”
- “They want me to listen to God to see if I should pay it forward for someone else, bu i don’t have anything to give.”
- “I don’t want to listen to God on this, because he’s going to tell me to give to someone else – and I do not have the money!”
- “So… I shouldn’t take the course (that way I do not feel guilty about not paying the price).”
- “But…If I do take the course, I will work extra shifts to make up for what I owe.”
What I was not aware of at the time, was that my own woundedness was keeping me from receiving what was truly being offered. This whole journey has been an incredibly healing process in my life. I received and shared my feelings with my facilitator and my Leader Team. We were able to listen to God about what he wanted me to know about all of this. I learned what it feels like to healthily give and receive. I still have not been able to pay it forward financially, however, I have been able “pay it forward” by offering coaching and consulting to my facilitators in areas of my strength. It has been a mutual giving and receiving as we pray God’s provision to come to us all.
If you are struggling with guilt or shame around receiving, you are not alone.
Does your heart sink in your chest when you think about the value of the course? Do you feel pressure in your head? Do you start to justify why you won’t be taking the course?
Learning to receive is not easy, if you would like to talk to a coach about your feelings about this article please click here.
Joy is being glad to be together no matter what, we in LK10 want you to experience joy, even when you are feeling weird about money.
C101 is a gift (with no strings attached).
